El Grupo de usuarios de GNU+Linux de la FCEN (GlugCEN) los invita a 
una nueva charla, esta vez con un importante invitado internacional.
La charla será dictada en inglés.

Abstract:
Cuando utilizás software privativo para enseñarle a los estudiantes,
les enseñas cómo utilizar el software para hacer el trabajo, pero es
difícil (sino imposible) para ellos ver como funciona el software realmente.
Con el Software Libre, además de poder enseñarles cómo utilizar el software,
podés enseñar cómo funciona y cómo mejorarlo.
Hay muchas otras ventajas al utilizar Software Libre en la educación
y esta charla mostrará algunas de ellas.

Bio:
Jon "maddog" Hall es el Director Ejecutivo de la Fundación Linux International
(www.li.org), una asociación de usuarios de computadoras que desean
apoyar y promover el Sistema Operativo Linux. Durante su carrera en
computación comercial, que comenzó por 1969, el Sr. Hall ha sido
programador, diseñador de sistemas, administrador de sistemas,
administrador de productos, administrador de marketing técnico y
educador.

Durante la primer media hora se podrán degustar unos snacks con vino y gaseosa
para charlar y reunirnos un rato, así que traten de llegar temprano.

Esta charla no está destinada sólo a los alumnos de Computación, sino que
queremos extender la invitación a toda la comunidad de Ciudad Universitaria.

Pensamos que la temática de la Cultura Libre  y el Software Libre pueden ser
útiles e interesantes para todas las carreras y personas por igual, es por
esto que dentro del ciclo vamos a contar con charlas tanto para principiantes
como para ya iniciados.

Estas charlas y debates son abiertos para todos los estudiantes, docentes y
todo aquel que esté interesado y tenga ganas de participar tanto como oyente
o disertante.

¿Qué es el GlugCEN? 

El GlugCEN (Grupo de usuarios de GNU+Linux de la Facultad de 
Ciencias Exactas y Naturales) es un grupo de usuarios de software libre,
formado por estudiantes y docentes de la FCEyN con el propósito de difundir
el software libre y el sistema GNU+Linux en el ámbito de nuestra facultad
así como también intercambiar conocimientos y experiencias.

Abstract:
When you use proprietary software in teaching students, you
teach the students how to use the software to do the job, but it is
difficult (if not impossible) for them to see how the software actually
works.  With Free Software you can teach them not only how to use the
software, but how it works and how to improve it.  There are many more
advantages to using Free Software for education, and this talk addresses
those reasons.

Bio:
Jon "maddog" Hall is the Executive Director of Linux International
(www.li.org), an association of computer users who wish to support and
promote the Linux Operating System.  During his career in commercial
computing which started in 1969, Mr. Hall has been a programmer, systems
designer, systems administrator, product manager, technical marketing
manager and educator.

He has worked for such companies as Western Electric Corporation, Aetna
Life and Casualty, Bell Laboratories, Digital Equipment Corporation, VA
Linux Systems, and SGI.  He currently works as an independent
consultant, and is the CTO and Ambassador for Koolu (www.koolu.com) a
Canadian firm that is involved with bringing environmentally friendly
computing to emerging marketplaces.

Mr Hall has worked on many systems, both proprietary and open, having
concentrated on Unix systems since 1980 and Linux systems since 1994,
when he first met Linus Torvalds and correctly recognized the commercial
importance of Linux and Free and Open Source Software.

He has taught at Hartford State Technical College, Merrimack College and
Daniel Webster College.

Mr. Hall is the author of numerous magazine and newspaper articles, many
presentations and one book, "Linux for Dummies".

Mr. Hall has consulted with the governments of China, Malaysia and
Brasil as well as the United Nations and many local and state
governments on the use of Free and Open Source Software.

Mr. Hall serves on the boards of several companies, and several
non-profit organizations.

Mr. Hall has traveled the world speaking on the benefits of Open Source
Software, and received his BS in Commerce and Engineering from Drexel
University, and his MSCS from RPI in Troy, New York.
