Hola Comunidad.

Es muy similar a FLISOL pero más amplio, porque además del installfest
están previstas conferencias acerca de ***patentes*** y otros temas.
Pego toda la Guía de Inicio. De América hay poco más de 10 países
regisitrados.

Start Guide

This manual is designed to introduce you to SFD and give you some tips
and pointers for organizing your own SFD team event. If you have any
questions please use our forum or email info AT
softwarefreedomday.org.

I. What is Software Freedom Day?

Software Freedom Day (SFD) is a worldwide celebration of Free and Open
Source Software (FOSS). Our goal in this celebration is to educate the
worldwide public about of the benefits of using high quality FOSS in
education, in government, at home, and in business -- in short,
everywhere! The non-profit company Software Freedom International
provides guidance in organizing SFD, but volunteer teams around the
world organize their own SFD events to impact their own communities.

    * See this page for further details about Software Freedom
International and SFD.
    * This Go-OpenSource FAQ has a lot of good information as well.

II. How can I celebrate Software Freedom Day?

There are two primary ways to celebrate SFD:

1. Organize your own SFD Team and plan a SFD event. Just find at least
two friends to help you, confirm a venue, and plan an event by July
1st and Canonical, Ltd., the primary sponsor of SFD, will help you up
to 100 CDs to distribute! (Keep reading for more details.)

2. Find and join a local SFD Team and help make their SFD event a success.

III. SFD will be most effective if we keep some target groups in mind:

    * Families

    * Government

    * Small Business

    * Big Business

IV. Be Creative!

You can organize any kind of SFD event you want. But just to get you
started, here are a few ideas some people have had:

* Set up simple public booth and hand out CDs.

* Have demo machines present if possible and interact with people as
they try the software out.

* Hold installation workshop(s) and combined FOSS installfests (not
just Linux, but also Windows FOSS).

* Lab-based installfests in schools/businesses

* Cooperate with local computer store to do an in-store installfest...
possibly with discounts for associated purchase?

* Advertise to "revitalize" slow computers - delete those
virus/adware/spyware-ridden Windows OSes and install Linux!

* Hold a seminar on IP, Free Culture, Patents, etc.

* Have a cultural event - food, drink, music (jam session? -
"open-source music").

* The Free Software Foundation was founded in 1985, so this is the
20th anniversary of Software Freedom. Celebrate Free Software with a
birthday party...

* Organize an expo to highlight [small] local businesses using FOSS.

V. Some guidelines to make SFD a positive celebration:

* DO present the capabilities and practical benefits of FOSS.

* DO NOT pretend that FOSS is perfect for everyone or everything.

* DO have the ability to present FOSS ideology clearly and concisely
to interested people.

* DO NOT beat uniterested people over the head with ideology; this
will confuse and intimidate them. Instead...

* DO let the quality of the software speak for itself and its ideology.

* DO have demo machines present if possible.

* DO your best to connect people with a local FOSS community.

* DO provide contact information for your SFD team so people can
subsequently contact you for more information.

* DO get contact information from interested and willing people, so
you can proactively follow-up with them later.

* DO proactively follow-up with people who attend your SFD event.

* DO find and cooperate with other SFD teams in your area.

* DO start other SFD teams in your area - this cooperation, not competition!

* DO NOT -- seriously -- DO NOT bash Microsoft or SCO or any other
false Great Satan. Software Freedom Day is not about any individual
companies or people; Software Freedom Day is a positive community
celebration of Software Freedom.
VI. Get free materials to distribute to your event participants.

* Our primary sponsor, Canonical, Ltd., has pledged to ship 100 free
CDs to the first 150 SFD teams who meet the basic requirements (*) and
fill in the request form by July 1st. So make sure you organize your
team and get your sponsorship request submitted on time! Some
additional materials will be available (e.g., t-shirts, balloons) but
their availability and distribution have yet to be determined.

(*) To qualify for sponsorship, a team must have at least 3 members,
have a team page with contact details and some basic plans in the SFD
wiki and have started a tea, thread in the SFD forum. The request form
will be available in a few days.
