this is SUCH A GOOD READ. big picture stuff.

“For centuries − as we have argued elsewhere (Granjou & Salazar, 2016; Walker, 2007) − the future was largely viewed in terms of modernity’s human-centred categories of innovation, emancipation, progress and civilization, while nature was irremediably shoved to the realm of the a-historical, understood as a fixed background for the development of society. In other words we argue that the future cannot be fully addressed without acknowledging those shared futurities of nature-culture entanglements (Granjou & Salazar, 2016).”
looks back at thinkers and ideas in environmentalism in recent history and neoliberal and corporate tactics to neutralize “attempts at collective anticipatory action to prevent further degradation of ecological order…” in order to normalize inaction and keep a hold on power.
this is SO evident to me now when I look at the current discourse war in mainstream media and social media (especially in the Anglo-Saxon global North context) against collective movements oriented to “social justice” and environmental justice - like this is some affront to their ‘free speech’.
