This sounds like it would have been a lot of fun. I wonder if there
was any mention of, or visits to, the T House villages in Ubud Bali
Indonesia. ( <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.balithouse.com/">http://www.balithouse.com/</a> ) For some years there was a
company in California called Tony's T-Houses founded by designer
<meta charset="utf-8">
Tony Gwilliam that made Asian-style prefab back yard pavilions of a
uniquely simple practical design. They were popular enough that Tony
was able to go on to pursuing applying this minimalist approach to
full scale homes and he moved to Bali to develop the Bali-T House; a
prefab house kit based on nail-less ironwood construction and unique
Indonesian craftsmanship. It helped inspire a bit of a craze in
export Indonesian kit housing, though most of that was focused on
the more elaborately carved traditional architecture popular for
guest houses and resort cottages. I was long very interest in these
Bali-T houses because of the powerful modular system Tony employed
and the non-toxic nature of the ironwood, which is so dense it
simply can't be adulterated by paint and other potentially toxic
finishes and treatments. But, unfortunately they never really caught
on as kit homes in the western world because they were too well
adapted to the mild Indonesian climate and couldn't work without
additional shelter in northern climates. So, eventually, Tony's
company gave up on selling the kits to focus on crafting vacation
villages using them in Ubud. But there's still great potential in
the building system for these clever and elegant little houses,
particularly today with the rise of the Tiny House movement. <br>
