<DIV>I thought you might be interested to hear about an event for Global Witness that Alex Soros will host on July 7th in Bridgehampton, New York. Global Witness campaigns against natural resource-related conflict and corruption and the environmental and human rights abuses that result. They work to expose the brutality and injustice that often arises from the struggle to control natural resource wealth and have sought to hold the perpetrators to account. Their work has revealed how, rather than benefiting a country’s citizens, abundant timber, diamonds, minerals, oil and other natural resources can incentivize corruption, destabilize governments and lead to war. Through their investigations, advocacy and campaigning, they seek solutions to the ‘resource curse’ so that citizens of resource-rich countries can get a fair share of their country’s wealth.
