I agree with the fundamental assessment,

at the same time rhetorical agression against capitalism is often counterproductive and drives away the very people you want on your side, i.e. the many who believe in a 'good capitalism'.

it is a bit ironic that many leading capitalists are now lamenting that 'marx was right' and 'please tax us', while amongst the demonstrators there is a feeling of 'hush, don't critique capitalism' ..

although it is a contradiction in terms, this is where people are, mostly, and the different measures that this entails would in any case be mostly beneficial to everyone,

so we can put underlying beliefs under brackets and seek for common demands for change, until the time is ripe for a more fundamental phase transition (just 2-3 decades away at the most, since the system is in a deep structural crisis)

that doesn't mean we have to hide our critiques, just that we can work with those who don't fully share it,

Michel

On Fri, Oct 14, 2011 at 2:21 PM, Karl Robillard <krobillard@san.rr.com> wrote:

It's funny/sad how few seem to be able to put the pieces together. Mr. Steele
writes:
"Capitalism is a process that can be moral or immoralSteve Jobs was
capitalism at its best, while Alan Greenspan remains capitalism at its worst,
corrupt to the core."

Umm.... no. The economic elites like Steve Jobs are just as detrimental to
human freedom as the financial elites. When one person becomes conditioned to
accept the controls that another wants to impose a harm has been done and
society has failed.

Eric Raymond on the Jobster:
"Whats really troubling is that Jobs made the walled garden seem cool. He
created a huge following that is not merely resigned to having their choices
limited, but willing to praise the prison bars because they have pretty window
treatments."

The same can be said of capitalism itself, though both Robert and Eric would
deny it.
