Reasoning:<br>

1. All the pieces needed for a new "open" society exist, they just<br>
need to be drawn together.<br>

2. The Internet is in fact a decentralised, distributed, peer to peer<br>
platform, no need to build a new one.<br>
<br>
3. "Open" is the word we internationally use to describe this new way<br>
of cooperating.<br>
<br>
4. What's missing is a central "authority" but the open movement can't<br>
have a centralised model because open is decentralised, non-<br>
authorative at it's core.<br>
<br>
5. Top level domains (TLDs) are the highest authoritative level on the<br>
Internet.<br>
<br>
6. With a sponsored top level domain (sTLD) an open non-profit<br>
meritocracy goverened body could oversee and distribute domains to<br>
open initiatives.<br>
<br>
7. The rules for what is open would be open to discussion for the<br>
public.<br>
<br>
8. The public could report abuse by non-open initiatives that have<br>
registered a domain under the TLD.<br>
<br>
<br>
Examples:<br>

university.open<br>
hardware.open<br>
software.open<br>
news.open<br>
etc<br>
<br>
<br>
Goal:<br>
<br>
Make it easier for those who work for the open movement to<br>
collaborate, and especially find projects to contribute to instead of<br>
starting new parallell projects, which I see as the main issue<br>
currently.<br>
