I am writing to you to announce the publication by The New Press of a
brand new book I co-edited with Victor Pickard, <i>Will the Last Reporter
Please Turn Out the Lights: The Collapse of Journalism and What Can Be
Done to Fix It</i>.<br>
�<br>
The book includes 32 new essays on the crisis of journalism in the United
States, written by leading scholars, journalists, activists and
policymakers. The essays cover a broad range of approaches to the topic
and viewpoints and offer an equally broad range of prospective solutions.
The pieces are all written since 2008 and mostly in 2010, and include
considerable ground-breaking research and analysis. A few were published
in magazines or journals, but most were commissioned and written
specifically for this volume. I have three essays in the book, two I
wrote with John Nichols, and another, on Walter Lippmann, I wrote
specifically for this book.<br>

We have put together a Hall of Fame line-up. Since many of them are

PS--My dear friend and frequent co-author John Nichols has a new book out
from Verso called<i> The S Word: A Short History of an American
Tradition�.Socialism</i>. It is a fantastic book that has received rave
reviews. Everyone I know who has picked up a copy has read it virtually
in one sitting it was so engrossing. That was my experience, too. Because
John has been so busy covering the Wisconsin 2011 uprising, he has not
has the opportunity to do the promotional work this book richly
deserves.<br>
