GTN Colleagues:<br>
<br>
The MARCH DISCUSSION will focus on a key dimension of transition: the futur=
e of agriculture. I am pleased to kick it off by sharing with you Frances M=
oore Lapp=C3=A9=E2=80=99s GTI essay, =E2=80=9CFarming for a Small Planet: A=
groecology Now.=E2=80=9D Please access it at <a href=3D"http://www.greattra=
nsition.org/publication/farming-for-a-small-planet" rel=3D"noreferrer" targ=
et=3D"_blank">www.greattransition.org/publication/farming-for-a-small-plane=
t</a>.<br>
<br>
Frankie=E2=80=99s best-selling =E2=80=9CDiet for a Small Planet,=E2=80=9D f=
irst published in <a href=3D"tel:1971" value=3D"+661971">1971</a>, mapped t=
he way to better eating; her new essay points to a better way of farming. T=
he essay sharply critiques the system design and dire consequences of indus=
trial agriculture, and finds hope in the alternative agroecological model n=
ow gaining traction. This debate about farming systems defines a critical f=
ield of struggle for the larger Great Transition movement.<br>
<br>
The essay touches on many key questions: Is the industrial model doomed? Ca=
n ecological farming meet the nutrition needs of a large and growing world =
population? What=E2=80=99s the scope for change within the reigning politic=
al economy? What are the implications for development in poor countries?<br=
>
<br>
Let=E2=80=99s extend our winning streak of rich, animated discussions! If y=
ou work in this neck of the woods, please draw from your experience to comm=
ent on the essay and the issues it raises. The rest of us will have questio=
ns to ask and connections to make. Remember, both expansive and brief comme=
nts are appreciated.<br>
<br>
Comments are welcome through MARCH 31. Frankie=E2=80=99s essay and selected=
 comments will be published in April, along with an interview with Wes Jack=
son and a review by Randy Hayes, both long-time leaders of the effort to fo=
rge a society in harmony with the land.<br>
<br>
Looking forward,<br>
