Subject: Session Commons from a Long-Term Perspective - IASC Conference 2015
To: "Laborda Peman, M. (Miguel)" <M.LabordaPeman at uu.nl>

  Dear colleague,

Between 25-29 May of 2015 the 16th Biannual Conference of the
International Association for the Study of the Commons (IASC) will take
place in Edmonton, Alberta (see http://www.iasc2015.org). With this mail,
we would like to invite you to take part in a session on commons from a
long-term perspective that we intend to organize for the occasion of that
meeting.

As you probably know, the IASC has been now working for more than thirty
years to improve our understanding of the governance of natural and other
shared resources. Ever since the IASC has provided scientists with very
diverse backgrounds a great forum to bring our knowledge on cooperation and
institutional diversity one step forward. But we believe there is a clear
need for a better understanding of the real long term functioning of
commons in order to understand how institutions for collective action in
general can be designed and managed in a resilient way. A Conference held
under the motto of *‘The Commons Amidst Complexity and Change’* should be,
we think, the appropriate occasion to add more knowledge on commons from a
long-term perspective.

To this purpose, we have designed a session proposal for the IASC
Conference aimed at bringing together historians and other scientists
approaching the study of the commons from a long-term perspective. You can
find it attached to this mail. We have kept it open enough as to
accommodate any scholar with a genuine interest in the topic. Therefore, we
will be really glad to welcome your individual proposals (500 words max.)
by the *27th October 2014* to M.LabordaPeman at uu.nl. Feel free to contact us
in case of further questions.

We hope to see you in Edmonton next year!

Sincerely,

 Miguel Laborda-Pemán - Utrecht University

Tine de Moor - Utrecht University
