Subject: The Greenhorns

I met founder of The Greenhorns while she was a student at UC Berkeley.

Please pass them on to any of your contacts that may be interested in their
mission and note several up coming Bay Area events:

Greenhorns is a five year old grassroots organization that works to support
new farmers in America. Our work is unconventional and various, we focus on
event organizing, in person-networking, mixers, celebrations and workshops
as well as the production of traditional and new media: radio, documentary
film, blog, a book of essays, guidebooks, web-based tools. Our goal over
the next generation is to retrofit the food system and to build a thriving
agricultural economy, for healthy regions, healthy watersheds, and a
healthy farm culture. We believe our movement can succeed with strong
communication, solid business skills, sustainable farm practices and
importantly, teamwork. We hope you will join the network.

*Grange Future*
March 7, Healdsburg SHED
Healdsburg, California
        Team!

New ice crystals on the window,
every morning of winter.

Each crystal a precise reminder
 the micro architecture of self-determination.

I wake up, look out through the crystals
And make a list right away.

February: goal setting and planning.
On fresh clean pages, near crisp seed packages,

And with enough green tea,
 few muddy thoughts.

Purpose, order, progress--

*FINAL REMINDER - ALMANAC*
The New Farmers Almanac returns for 2015, with a diverse and delightful set
of submissions already in hand. If you have promised us a piece of writing,
please push it to us as well-polished and quickly as you can. Spend your
morning time on it please! Focus, the season will swirl you away once again
before you can share what insights a season of thinking has yielded.

*Reminder also* to Artists, Amateur Archivists of Ephemera:
You too can send in your contributions!
Almanac images: due date February 15th

clean it up and use it.

Grange Future is a community history project undertaken by Greenhorns
Severine Fleming and Jen Griffith, with illustrations by Christin Ripley.
We have been researching the history of the grange movement and
interviewing current grangers about the revivals taking place across the
country. Grange Future is a project of discovering the syllabus of
appropriate community actions: social kinship, economic cooperation, and
resistance against monopoly. We are still in the muddy middle of building
the archive and website.
You can start your own grange research with books+ articles from Library

Available for purchase in mid-February 2014, the complete film festival
package includes a DVD set, screening rights, promotional materials
(posters! flyers! stickers!), as well as a screening guide and resources

I find it rather easy to portray a businessman. Being bland, rather cruel
and incompetent comes naturally to me.
 - John Cleese

Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake: One of her characters asks, "As a species
we're doomed by hope, then?" By hope? Well, yes. Hope drives us to invent
new fixes for old messes, which in turn create ever more dangerous messes.
Hope elects the politician with the biggest empty promise; and as any
stockbroker or lottery seller knows, most of us will take a slim hope over
prudent and predictable frugality. Hope, like greed, fuels the engine of
capitalism.
