Dear everybody,
Being a teacher myself, and very interested in the dialogue that teaching is, I thank you for linking me to this initiative. Thanks to all P2P           Carmen

Asunto: [P2P-F] Fw: Deadline registration UN Training Part II

Dear All --

I apologize that I am so new to this list-serve and so may easily tread on old or unrelated issues due to ignorance, but just seeing this discussion of Michel's points on the "Alliance of the Commons", just was struck with something that came across my email about the same time from the UN ngo group on these similar issues, "The UN Commons Cluster" headed up by Lisinka Ulatowska.  I'm including that email below on the Training on "Building the Commons Top Down and Bottoms Up", in case it would be of any interest to any?  Again, another group that through my work with the Transformative Education Forum and the UN, I am "loosely" aware of.  For me, the problem is always in how to create the greater ability to make all these needed connections to truly "build" a "Commons" movement, more human and interpersonal?  Otherwise, for me, it can have a tendency to overwhelm one with computer rather than human interaction?

At any rate, accept again my apologies if I am wrong about the possible crossover of interest(s) here,
Best,
June Gorman

Subject: Deadline registration UN Training Part II

 Dear Friends,

The UN Training Part
II will take place on Wednesday, April 3rd  9:00-11:00
am PDT; noon-2:00 pm EDT; 6:00-8:00 pm CET.

The 2-hour training will consist of two equal parts
	1. A slide show on diverse aspects of the commons, as described below. This is open to all. No registration required
	2. A workshop with hands-on training in presenting a commons perspective in a UN context. The number of participants in the workshop is limited to 8 to give each an opportunity to practice . For this registration is required. The deadline for registration is Monday, April 1st noon PDT (3:00 pm EDT and 9:00 CET. (Registration form attached). Those wishing to attend will also be asked to complete an assignment to prepare for participation (See below).

Here is how to
connect for all, including the actual workshop participants:

Go to
1. http://InstantTeleseminar.com/?eventid=39839403

2. Primary dial in number: (206) 402-0100
Secondary dial in number: (703)
344-2171

3. Guest pin code: 926179#

Please call in at
least 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled time because complications with
connecting tend to arise and it will be hard to connect you once the slide show
has begun. To provide adequate time for practice, only those enrolled in the
workshop will be able to participate actively. All others will be on mute.

UN TRAINING PART II

GROWING THE COMMONS TOP DOWN AND BOTTOM UP

Training Part II is meant for anyone who is interested in
advocating a commons approach to dealing with issues the UN focuses on. This could
take two forms: either by joining one of our teams and actually attending a UN
conference, or else giving input from your own home where you can remain
updated by our Instant Response Network.

Part I of this Training focused on the UN. Part II will focus
on diverse aspects of the commons and on how a commons approach can be applied
to the resolution of global problems as they emerge from global to local levels.
The workshop will provide hands-on experience of presenting your commons
approach to delegates and the UN in several steps.

Speakers will be:

Akiwa Gizzel,
Director of Human Affect, who will speak on Indigenous Peoples, some special
ways in which they make contact with Nature and their particular
vulnerabilities and concerns when lobbying at the UN
Rob Wheeler, UN Representative of the Global Eco Villlage Network (GEN) and one of the
leaders of the Commons Cluster will describe his personal experience of
actually living in a commons community. He will also describe how GEN builds
Ecovillages worldwide. For instance, 46000 are planned for Senegal.
Alanna Hartzok, MA, Director of the Earth Rights Institute will
discuss the approach of Henry George and a commons approach to financing as a tool
to help bring about sustainability.

Facilitator and
designer of the Training and workshop: Dr. Lisinka Ulatowska.
(Coordinator NGO Major Group Commons Cluster at the UN.)
Technical
Director: Myra Jackson

Those wishing to participate in the workshop
Please

1. complete the attached form and send it to Lisinka.Ulatowska at gmail.com.
2. prepare for participation as follows:

	* download from  http://www.commonsactionfortheunitednations.org/un-rep-training/ the advocacy resource booklet:Growing the Commons Top-Down and Bottom-Up.
	* read Measures to Shift to an All-Win, Sustainable, Commons-Based Economy on page 50. This chapter also deals with measures to alleviate poverty.
	* Prepare a one-minute rationale for using a commons approach to a sustainable economy as if you were talking to a delegate. (You are free to adjust this to a particular country or just to delegates in general).
	* Make a list of measures that seem most important to you to mention to the delegate if s/he agrees to extend the conversation. In this way your prepared presentation will consist of two separate parts.
We shall both practice our presentations and learn more
about the measures you choose to bring up.

3. Please also listen to and watch the slide show section of
Part I if you did not attend Training I or if you have not yet attended a UN
conference on sustainability. The slide show can be found on: http://www.commonsactionfortheunitednations.org/un-rep-training/ by clicking in the grey section on Part One UN Decision Making/ view the page.

Please note: Part
II is being held much later than planned. This made it possible for us to
present speakers who would otherwise have been unavailable.

Part III will deal
with Strategy and build on the work that the Commons Cluster will be
preparing in the coming weeks.
With warmest greetings,

Lisinka Ulatowska
