Dear friends and colleagues,

President Obama’s brief mention of climate changein his convention speech was notable mostly for its rarity. On the heels of two years of extraordinary weather disasters in the US—record flooding, massive drought and crop failure-- politicians have generally stopped talking about global warming.

It’s clear why formerly climate-moderate R’s like Romney have clammed up: Tea Party primary challenges have turned global warming into a toxic subject. But why the silence from Democrats? This Wednesday, at noon eastern, The National Climate Seminarwelcomes Darren Springer, top aid to Senator Bernie Sanders , to talk about why climate is missing in politics, and how to get it back.

Call-in number: 1-712-432-3100; Conference Code: 253385

Send advance questions for Darren to climate at bard.edu.
In two weeks, join Heinz Award winner KC Golden from Climate Solutions on coal exports. Later in the term, RFF’s Dallas Burtraw on the future of clean air act regulation; NRDC’s Kim Knowlton on climate and health; Eleanor Sterling from the American Museum of Natural History on climate and biodiversity; and350.org’s May Boeve on the climate movement and politics.
