By the way, a *great* resource on Alexander's thinking applied to
software is Richard Gabriel's book, "Patterns of Software":

Richard Gabriel has a good number of very interesting books and articles
in that web site - including his technique of analysis of poetry based
on Alexander's 15 properties of life (!).
I heartily recommend reading his works to anyone interested in
Alexander's thinking.
