International Forum of Social and Solidarity Economy 2011

June 10th, 2011 – The World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters
(AMARC), the Québec Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (ARCQ) and
the Chantier de l’économie sociale are happy to announce their collaboration
on the occasion of the International Forum of Social and Solidarity Economy
(FIESS), which will take place from October 17th to 20th, 2011, in Montreal.
As the official radio broadcasters of the FIESS, AMARC and ARCQ will
actively contribute to the exposure of this event.
As social economy actors, we are very proud to participate in the FIESS,
which will contribute to the promotion and development of the social and
solidarity economy. We invite all our partners to be present at this event.
Social and Solidarity Economy – a Movement that is Growing in Size Here and
Abroad
This international event will certainly be a privileged time for the
recognition of the growing importance that the social and solidarity economy
has taken in economic development strategies. In this respect, AMARC
Secretary-General, Mr. Marcelo Solervicens, emphasizes that « this forum
will be the opportunity to reinforce the relationships between community
radio broadcasters and organizations of the social economy both here and
abroad and to request public policies from States that ensure the
sustainability of this promising economic sector ».
Québec has achieved international recognition as an important actor of the
social economy for its dynamism and its contribution in the building of
successful partnerships between public authorities and civil society at the
national, regional and local levels. « Community radios are stakeholders of
the Quebec social economy movement. The FIESS will not only enhance best
practices, but will also permit learning from experiences taking place on
other continents », emphasizes Lise Morissette, ARCQ president.
Indeed, by its participatory and interactive approach, the FIESS will be a
forum for discussion and knowledge sharing on methods and practices of
several North and South countries, thus facilitating the co-construction of
public policies that have contributed to encourage the growth of the social
and solidarity economy organizations seeking economic and social development
objectives. The FIESS agenda includes several components, including field
visits, keynote speakers dinners, special events and workshops. To learn
more about the agenda or for further information, visit www.fiess2011.org .

more than 125,000 people with an annual financial turnover of more than 17
