"The accident made me reflect to the reason I moved to Arizona. I moved here
after completing my dissertation, Gaia: The Planetary Religion, the Sacred
Marriage of Art and Science. It's a feminist theory of architecture that is
devoted to creating a car-free ecological city. I wrote it because I
realized that our modern cities were being destroyed by the automobile.
Automakers had fooled the American public to not invest in public
transportation, but into the highway system instead. Perhaps this decision
was the most serious mistake (next to building nukes) made by the American
republic. Building cars were good for empire-making and war, but not for
democracy-making and peace."
