[P2P-F] 2 strategies to undermine free software's progress

here is a very incisive comment by Felix Stalder,

I wonder if someone could write, or point to an already written, analysis of
the state of progress (or not), in view of these 2 counter-strategies? (for
the p2p blog)

I wish, but as far as I can see, the lesson most business took from open
source software was NOT to embrace it, but to move to software-as-service,
where the GPL has no teeth (because the software is not distributed) or to
an Android type approach, where the software is linked to hardware to a
degree that it's free and open only in the most formal sense
