As he notes, they clearly liked the international dimesnion.
Sustainability was a specific requirement of this particular funding round
and may not be so important in future. The question of commercial
engagement is clearly something to look at as we develop future projects.
Very mucj looking forward to discussing when Michel is in town

Subject: AHRC Centre for Copyright and New Business Models for the
Creative Economy
Dear Professor Howells
The Arts and Humanities Research Council and representatives from other
participating agencies have now considered the Expressions of Interest for
the proposed Centre for copyright and New Business Models for the Creative
Economy. I am sorry to inform you that you have not been selected to
submit a full proposal.
As part of the selection process the panel discussed each Expression of
Interest and wished to convey the following feedback;
The panel agreed that there was clarity and cohesion of arguments, a
positive focus and a good international element. Initially there would be
a strong Director but the engagement was only for a short period raising
concerns about what would happen at his departure. There were also
concerns raised about where the commercial engagement was going to come
from and it was not apparent how business and industry were going to be
drawn in. The panel that the issue of sustainability was not sufficiently
addressed so it was difficult to see what would happen when research
council funding ended.
Yours sincerely
