Musix recent version is 1.0 R4 dvd, r2 is too old, but the problem 
might be the same

Could you tell us how do you launch jack?

messages?

About the distorted sound on the onboard sound card,try toconfigura 
jack (setup from jack control) for 3 periods/buffers
