Yes: sorry, no one tried with this soundcard before, you will have to 
install the mixer, it's easy

Sure: but you can install it now:
Into a root console (terminal), type

apt-get update
apt-get install alsa-tools-gui

And then you will have:

hdspconf - GUI program to control the Hammerfall HDSP Alsa Settings.
hdspmixer - tool to control the advanced routing features of the
             RME Hammerfall DSP.
rmedigicontrol - control tool for RME Digi32 and RME Digi96 soundcards
