 Talking with a colleague at uni about this, he told me how he did it (to
 pack a Java project inside a .deb), and even provided me the code samples.

 The whole project where he did it is here, configured for packaging as a
 .deb and for an executable in Windows:

 although the meat is in the build.xml for the ant (just search for
 "debian" there):
