You are warmly invited to join the Digital Commons Policy Council (DCPC) at 5pm AEST / 9am CEST on Wednesday 25 September for the launch of its Best Practices Guide for Digital Commons Government Relations.

Digital commons are community-developed resources that can be used by anyone, such as open source software.

The DCPC is an international think tank, founded in 2021 at the University of Canberra. It aims to increase recognition for digital commons and the voluntary work that creates them. The DCPC produces public reports based on empirical data, submissions to lawmakers,
educational resources for schools, and scientific articles.

Many firms which rely on open digital infrastructure do not contribute to its maintenance, resulting in potentially damaging security breaches. The DCPC believes that governments industrial policies and public service policies should support the long-term
sustainability and security of digital commons.

This will enable governments to pivot towards increased cost savings, support for ethical initiatives, and technological sovereignty in the public sector, says DCPC Director Mathieu O'Neil, Professor of Communication at the University of Canberra, Faculty of
Arts and Design.

Join us online to launch the publication of the DCPCs guide a significant step in achieving closer cooperation between governments and digital commons projects.
