GitHub pull-request #2003

Hi everyone. I implemented a new convenience feature for Evil, in
GitHub PR #2003, but I'm unsure if I followed the correct contribution
procedure. I got no response there, and I understand if the
maintainers are busy, but I decided to reach out through this mailing
list just in case PRs are not accepted and there's some other
preferred way. I'd just like some confirmation/guidance. I'll include
the formatted patch file in this message in case it is useful.
