navigation commands and setting the mark

This is more of a feature request than a bug report, but I feel that
navigation commands that take you more than a few words away from the
point, e.g. ( or [[, should be setting the mark.  This need is felt
very acutely when these commands are issued accidentally and then I
have to search for where I came from because C-o or C-u SPC don't take
me there...
