Dot repeat stops working after pressing "ESC"

Thanks for the fix, it is working in this scenario now, however, in a slight
varied scenario it is still problematic.

1. "i"
2. Type something.
3. "ESC"
4. "." (this works)
5. "d"
6. Hit "ESC"
7. "." - Nothing happens.
