Exit from visual state breaks dot repeation

So, I just noticed this problem. Here is the steps to reproduce it:

1. "i"
2. Type something, e.g., type foo
3. Esc
4. Press . will repeat the insertion of "foo" which is good.
5. "v" to enter visual state, then "Esc" to exit.
6. Press "." and I expect "foo" to be inserted but nothing happened.
