Women are the backbone of agriculture worldwide, yet they face unequal land
rights, lower wages, lack of credit access, and exclusion from policies
meant to support farmers. When crisis hits—crop failures, debt, climate
change—it’s the women who bear the heaviest burden, managing households,
caregiving, and often being left alone to deal with mounting debts. In
conflict zones, these struggles are even more severe, with women farmers
displaced from their lands, caught between armed conflicts, and often
subjected to gender-based violence.
