I am writing to you about a very special project we have initiated.

This year is the 30th anniversary of Schumacher College. To celebrate 
this special occasion we have launched an international essay 
competition, on the theme of “Education as if People and Planet Matter“. 
This initiative is in collaboration with Resurgence & Ecologist magazine.

First prize: £5,000. Second prize: £2,000. Third prize: £1,000.

As you know, the present educational system serves the interest of the 
Industrial Age promoting wasteful production, consumption and 
ever-increasing economic growth on a finite planet. This educational 
system is in urgent need of transformation if we wish to see education 
remaining relevant to the age of ecology and serving the purpose of the 
regenerative culture and sustaining the integrity of our precious planet 
earth.

Please also see the attached press release which has gone out to the 
British media.

With this email I am asking for your help in two ways:

 1. Please consider participating in this competition by submitting your
    own essay. If you could do that I will be delighted. Apart from the
    cash prize, we are also planning to publish a book of essays on
    “Education as if People and Planet Matter”. The length of your essay
    should be between 1000 to 1500 words. The final deadline for the
    submission is 1st July 2021.
 2. I would be most grateful if you would kindly send this information
    to your contacts and post to your social media pages. If you are
    also able to post this information on your website that would be
    wonderful.
 3. If you know any journalists or if you are contributing to any
    journals, magazines or newspapers yourself please consider promoting
    this competition as widely as possible particularly to people in the
    field of education who have some radical ideas. Thank you very much
    for your help and support in this regard.
