If you've never been in that part of LA, or ever been exposed to minority groups, this will be a bit of a culture shock. Luckily for me, i grew up not to far away from the projects, but given its been awhile since i???ve been there, i could see how it could be intimidating. I would say just be yourself, respectful and courteous, like a regular decent human being and you should be good. Dont let the surroundings intimidate you. People and fairly pleasant and respectful. You might get one clown here and there, but that is anywhere. Go in a group and enjoy. There is a seating area outside, very small, and ghetto, but makes it more of a genuine experience :-)
Food/Customer Service: I was very surprised by the quality of the experience. Yes, the burger is big....and greasy...but good! Red onions, green leaf lettuce, thick slices of bacon, thick tasty slices of tomatoes...all of these things usually get compromised in most places but not here. The only thing i do wish i could have tasted was more seasoning on the patty. I think 3 Bear BBQ has a better seasoned patty, but i don???t know that i would trade the burger for it. It really is a good burger. The fries where thick, you might want to put salt of them, otherwise its just a bland piece of potatoes. The service was average. One person taking both orders and phone calls. It took me about 15-20 minutes and about the same time to get my food. 40 minutes for a burger, fries, and a drink.... i get it, its a popular place, so i wont stress about it too much.
Parking might be somewhat of an issue, there is a parking lot across the street but it doesn???t belong to Hawkins.
Its worth a try, i don???t know if i would go out of my way to go but if i???m in the neighborhood and have the time, i would definitely go back!fa136e57392093479095a5a40f033715
