best. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits. My friend ordered the steak medium well, and was brought out a hamburger a few minutes after my meal was served. Trying to be polite, I just nibbled on my meal until her meal was corrected. She was served the steak she ordered this time, but it was very rare, but she decided not to make a big deal about it. By this time my meal is beasically inedible because it is so cold. During the meal I witnessed a server trying to get the silverware, which is rolled up in dish rags, out of the bin by the two doors going out to the patio. The server dropped a service of silver onto the floor, it was raining last night, so let me amend that to wet, muddy floor and put it back in the bin. When I mentioned what I had witnessed to our waitress, she did nothing about it. We did receive a free dessert from the Sommelier for our dinner being served wrong, that was a nice touch. But when leaving in the rain the 3 Valets who were working let us walk to the parking lot without bringing us one of the two umbrellas they were using. For the price, location, and crowd I expected so much more from this restaurant. If you're looking for a new place to cry (or laugh) in your beer, I highly recommend the new Meddlesome Moth. It is located just inside the Design District at 1621 Oak Lawn - just west of Stemmons Freeway. It's billed as a "great bar with great food" and it is the latest brainchild of Shannon Wynne (aka 8.0, Flying Saucer, Flying Fish, etc.) It lives up to what they're touting. They have 42 different beers on tap (not your Miller Light / Bud variety) and you can taste samples free before you take the plunge. Plus at least 75 different bottled beers and a full bar. Varied, interesting menu and everything we had was good... small plates for sharing and hearty entrees, too. Caprese salad, tuna skewers, fish and chips were standouts. Definitely the nicest (upscale) interior I've seen from Shannon Wynne - complete with large stained glass windows imported from the original Dallas Hard Rock Cafe - and a cool patio space. Casual atmosphere and affable bartenders. Having been a part of the Great American Beer Festival in Colorado for the past five years I can say honestly that I simply love beer, the reason this place gets two stars instead of one is because it has a decent beer selection and the venue is nice. That being said, the food we got here was horrendous, we ordered the blue crab salad which smelled so fishy we were concerned about eating it, it tasted like tuna mixed with fishy crab, the tomato was a beefsteak not an heirloom, for $14 ingredients should be fresh and as described on the menu. Our next dish was the fish and chips, really soggy and not impressive to say the least. Finally, we got the collard greens which were inedible, so filled with nasty fake smoke additive that we could not take more than two bites, I actually had to spit it out it was so gross. Our server ignored us when she noticed we weren't eating the food, she actually came rushing by and dropped off the check before we could order more beer or say anything really. Overall it was a terrible experience and for a total bill of $95 we felt totally ripped off. Tremendous selection of great beers and food was decent. Decor was outstanding.
