My birthday week, or weeks, gave opportunity to visit The Moth twice, once on a weekend with a reservation on the patio and another on a Monday where we just quietly chilled with wine and shared two plates. On the Monday Greg picked the meatballs with mushrooms and cream and I picked the chicken liver pate. Being mostly vegetarian Greg urged me to order something else but perhaps his motives were a little more selfish. The pate came in a jar, ice cold with a layer of congealed fat on top. "mix it together" the bartender guided, but we just removed it entirely. "I'm picky about my chicken liver pate, but this is probably some of the best I've had in Dallas.". We ate it all. "don't mess with a Jewish kids pate. This is like peanut butter and jelly to me." Greg beamed. Then the meatballs came. "The owners must be Jewish." Greg quipped in satisfaction. So I was happy he was pleased, but the food really was good. I was in Dallas on business and was looking for somewhere local, yet nontraditional and stumbled upon The Meddlesome Moth. We unfortunately did not make reservations (rookie mistake), so we had to dine elsewhere that night. The next evening, I decided to come here alone just to sit at the bar, enjoy a drink or two and have an appetizer. I was glad that I did. When I sat down, I immediately noticed that they had Alaskan Amber on tap and it was the first thing I ordered. I had never had it before, but heard great things about it. It's rich, slightly malty with a caramel color. It's extremely smooth and deliciously intoxicating. Yeah - that good. Living in Florida, it's impossible to get. I was glad that I capitalized on this opportunity. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered a second. I couldn't choose just one appetizer as planned, so I chose two. I had the Pig and Fig, which is pork belly with blue cheese grits and a BBQ fig and I also ordered the Nueske's Bacon Lollipops which came with funnel cake and maple hollandaise. Everything was delicious. The pork belly was well prepared, tendered and melt in your mouth good. The blue cheese grits was a welcome twist on a southern favorite. I enjoyed it because there was the potential for the blue cheese to overpower the dish, but it did not. It complemented it well. The Nueske's Bacon Lollipops were a delightful surprise as well. Next time I will not order this if I am solo, because it is just too much bacon for one person to consume. The service was fast, the waiter attentive, the food delicious and the atmosphere was relaxing, warm and inviting. What more could a road warrior like me ask for? we were looking for something new and interesting on a recent weekend trip to dallas (from austin). I lived there many years ago and a lot has changed and I was surprised to see some thing the same. I was having a hard time finding something NEW that wasn't a remix of something old. I didn't want tex-mex or southern food. the meddlesome moth was a great fit for what we wanted. the beer,,, YES! what a great beer selection and good prices too. we LOVE the live oak
