I realize I am late to the party but thank goodness I finally got here. This place is fantastic--great service and amazing food. As I took my first bite of the Shiner Monte Cristo, I started making a list in my head of all the people I wanted to bring back here immediately. The homemade cherry and fig jelly just elevates the sandwich to a whole other level. I honestly only had room to try one or two homemade chips, but those were good too. Just want to say thanks for refusing to take my order at 3:55 on Saturday. I ended up at Uncle Billy's and had great food and service, and tasty beer. Heard about Hey You Gonna Eat That or What and drove in from Round Rock. I have a food trailer and work when other ones are open; I took this week off to try several I have been hearing about. Now I can mark this one off my list. Okay let me elaborate. The outer batter coating, fried to a perfection of golden brown magnificence, is a Shiner-Boch based beer batter or superlative quality and texture. The inner bread that the sandwich was composed of, chosen from dozens of different breads as the chef/owner explained, was soft but flavorful. Honest and hearty with character and a solid contribution to the overall flavor composition. The locally sourced white cheddar and provolone cheeses melted to a gooey, creamy richness were splendidly paired with the hand-made Cherry and fig preserve jelly that accompanied it. Clearly with intent and purpose. I have rarely had such a complimentary cheese and fruit pairing in even well regarded brick and mortar establishments. The Ham was exquisite and the smoked turkey was expertly complimented by the nutty, hoppy quality of the beer batter in what I felt was a noticeable and appreciable manner that can appeal to a broad range of palate refinements from kids to connoisseurs. Naturally, as per tradition, there was a dusting of powdered confectioners sugar on the outside to top it off.
