Despite this, the first member of our group was 30th in line. The wait actually wasn't too bad. Because we showed up early, we were under the shade of the stairs for the entire time so it wasn't even that hot. Our tailgating kept us entertained. After awhile it did get tiring though.
At 11 am the line started moving and by 11:30 am we had our food! I don't know if it's because of the hype or because we were so darn hungry from waiting that whole time but my boyfriend and I ordered 4 lbs of meat for just the two of us. With such a reputation, you can imagine the food wasn't cheap - 4 lbs of meat + small potato salad + small pecan pie came out to $80.
And now for the food itself! The brisket was really really good but not as amazing as the hype (to be honest, the expectation was so high I don't know if the quality was ever going to meet it). I actually really loved the sausage and the ribs - and I don't normally like ribs. Don't bother with the pulled pork - it's only okay - or the sauces. This stuff tastes good all on it's own. The potato salad was meh (it just comes in the way of all the meat!) but oh my god that pecan pie was phenomenal! I was too full to finish it but boy did I devour it a couple hours later.
I think buying more than you can eat there is definitely a good idea. This food makes delicious leftovers and you'll also feel more like it was worth the wait if you get more!
Am I glad I came? YES! Would I do it the same way if I had the chance? YES! Would I come again? Hmm probably not. The 4 hour line was fun once for the experience but I don't think this food was necessarily worth doing the whole shebang again. Franklins you will be a fond memory!
