creating a p2p foundation in australia
Dear Jose, can't remember if I discussed this with your or someone else, see http://p2pfoundation.net/Global_Action_Networks This is a message to remind ourselves of the plan to create a local antenna for the p2p foundation in australia ... how do we proceed from here? Michel
the plan to create a local antenna for the p2p foundation in australia ...
Michel, is there a ³local antenna² for the p2p foundation in the UK? Given, the close coupling of the p2p and commons memes and practices, how would you envision an ideal case scenario for collaboration with our School of Commoning? george
hi George, there is no local group in the UK, and I'm not sure who would be up for that ... Ideal would be to have some kind of merger with Josef's United Diversity work as you know, the p2p foundation is all about creating a knowledge commons about p2p, a kind of service orientation to the broader movement ... a UK blog would then specialize in covering UK p2p trends and initiatives, and there is no limit about what could be conceived in terms of cooperation, but that would depend on the local people, we have a group in greece doing well, and I'm hoping to get something off the ground in the spanish language On Sun, Jun 19, 2011 at 2:10 PM, George Por < [email protected]> wrote:

one idea would be to create a series of intro courses based on the material available in the p2p wiki, covering p2p/commons in the different fields ... On Sun, Jun 19, 2011 at 2:10 PM, George Por < [email protected]> wrote:

I'll help how I can. Certainly tapping the network of Gathering/Hub/SocialChangeCollaboratory is an obvious way to start. We are currently undertaking an "Almanac Project" to collect/sort/share the knowledge from this year's Gathering conference: is.gd/mQ6A6w Perhaps the Almanac can draw on P2PF approaches/infrastructure? In any case, it would be lovely if those of you on this list who attended could share a comment. Kind Regards, Matt On Sun, Jun 19, 2011 at 1:37 PM, Michel Bauwens <[email protected]>wrote:

Hi Michel and everyone Thanks for the prodding. You didn't even give us a chance to get a cup of coffee in the morning ;) Here are the items that I have from my conversation with Michel and Darren. - Oz chapter basics 1. a blog page on the p2p site for the australian chapter - announcing a beginning... 2. mailing list - workshops 1. for big corporates - why you should be scared and why there is hope 2. for small entrepreneurs - designing a p2p enterprise 3. for gov. - policy for p2p 4. for citizens - ideas for empowerment - global p2p fair (which of course I would have no part in organizing as I have no talent and inclination for this. But by all means enjoy yourselves!). Longer term: I think it would be easier to have a simplified "franchise" model that is established under the P2P global cooperative. This makes it much easier to establish a p2p australia with very set rules that govern 1. resource allocation, 2. governance, 3. purpose / mission. this might be negotiated via an experimental Oz franchise. Doing a full fledged social charter is a more profound process, but alot messier and alot more work. I happy to play a support role, as I understand that others here have been advocates and pioneers in p2p. I have only been a cheerleader and use the nice software, and have a broader focus. cheers jose On Mon, Jun 20, 2011 at 10:19 AM, Matt Cooperrider <[email protected]> wrote:

that would be great ...
announcing a beginning... 2. mailing list
useful to create continuity in the process ..
- workshops 1. for big corporates - why you should be scared and why there is hope 2. for small entrepreneurs - designing a p2p enterprise 3. for gov. - policy for p2p 4. for citizens - ideas for empowerment
if someone can take the lead on this, I'd be very happy to contribute in the conceptualization of these workshops
- global p2p fair (which of course I would have no part in organizing as I have no talent and inclination for this. But by all means enjoy yourselves!).
No means yes <g>, just kidding, understood Jose ...

don't forget, there is a difference between the foundation, where you can be an independent group, 'brothers' as it were (it's not a membership org for now), and the coop, there, it would be sufficient to create a clone of our dutch coop, using/modifying the statutes, and then we make some agreement on cooperation ?
Doing a full fledged social charter is a more profound process, but alot messier and alot more work.

hi Matt, re your gathering remark, a wiki based approach could be useful, ie. you could distinguish between 'knowledge resources' 'material resources' 'individuals' and 'organisations' and 'topics' adding those tags would create 4 different sections, and combined searches would provide detailed info, for example, 'what movements are active in the environment' ..
