how about setting up Diaspora* on p2pf.org?
Hello, I've just setup diaspora on wwelves.org (so you can just use may email address to add me to your diaspora friends =) I would also like to offer my help with setting up a pod for P2P Foundations, if needed also finding someone to offer server space for it! @franco could we use p2pf.org? this way people using it could have as their identifiers: [email protected], [email protected] etc... IMHO diaspora already provides quite decent alternative to big brothers like Facebook/Twitter in many aspects... =) ~ elf Pavlik ~

It's a good posibility. I thought that could be a good idea to replace the Ning network with Elgg, as it's possible to integrate the user base with our wiki and with other planned tools (such as a webspace of courses running on Moodle). I am not sure if it's possible to get that level of integration with Diaspora. The distributed architecture of Diaspora is of course really important: what do you think of Lorea in that sense? Seems a really active and powerfull tool (and also it's really good that is already associated with social movements such as 15M and others). What do you think? Best, -- Franco Iacomella

I know elgg based platform - Lorea which n-1 runs on and I have already made suggestions in a past about replacing Ning... But it will take quite some effort to put all those pieces together and migrate content from Ning network export =(

What do you think? I thinks that diaspora gets on popularity, and gives a nice step away from services like Facebook/Twitter, I don't see it colliding with future setup of collaborations space based for example on elgg. We could also set up diaspora node and start using it in matter of hours. To put it simple, if people here have facebook and/or twitter account but not diaspora, we can improve a lot with rather little effort!

Another handy thing is that you can set up oauth integration in diaspora, so folks can post to their facebook and twitter accounts from @p2pfoundation.net :) We can extend it to do things, but really it is not very much like elgg. It is much more like google + > aspects = circles. Just a distributed, secure version of it that was released well before! If your goal is to migrate the ning network to an open source platform, elgg is the way to go. Diaspora, like google+, is an entirely different experience! There are some wordpress integrations too, thus blog posts could be cross-posted on the diaspora pod, etc. I would be glad to help with this if folks are interested! I already integrated Elgg, Mediawiki and Moodle in the past. This was innitially done in the FTA site (http://community.ftacademy.org) and I recently done it in http://comunidad.gleducar.org.ar. I think the Ning export is the mayor issue, but shouldnt be impossible.

Would be greaet if we can have Elgg and Diaspora with SSO. About installing our own node of Diaspora: we could do it in "pod.p2pf.org". But, don't you think it would be good idea to think and determine how this pod would be special? Why (besides supporting Diaspora) we would like to setup the P2PF's node? Any thought?
