localizing the p2p-f wiki
dear Marco et al. I am sharing these proposals with our technical list and volunteers, right now, as of say 18 months ago, country tags are added systematically to all new items on the wiki there are also language sections, and we have a specific way to indicate local wiki's and blog, as vasilis and jean can explain for the greek and dutch blogs, Michel Message: 3 Date: Fri, 1 Nov 2013 01:14:40 +0100 From: Marco Giustini <[email protected]> Subject: [P2P-F] p2p foundation internationalization To: P2P Foundation mailing list <[email protected]> Message-ID: <CAMFKyxC8NFGLasW=znxe6ubaG-spsW5xaV-axT1AX-L5hKfMPA@mail.gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" I think is needed to localize contents collected by the wiki and the blog of p2pfoundation. And more, is needed to create local communities in different languages than english. If someone is interested in that project, could be possible to try to build the internet infrastructure without touching the original www.p2pfoundation.net website. For this reason I registered the domain www.p2pf.net. If someone is interested in the project I can donate the domain to the community. Marco Giustini
Premise: As I said before I can donate the domain p2pf.net to community, so you can use it in an exclusive way. Blog: I think it's preferred to use the domain p2pf.net domain ONLY for wordpress. If you're interested in creating a multilingual/multicountry community for the p2pfoundation, my proposal is to move blog.p2pfoundation.net to www.p2pf.net, using the main domain as the main english blog, and creating local branches of the p2pfoundation using subdomains, so to have i.e. nederlands.p2pf.net, italia.p2pf.net and soon. Each blog (including the main one) could have community features (buddypress) and would be possible also to import data from Ning using the related plugin. Each blog could also have a crowdfunding plugin to support country based projects. And soon.. Wiki: I think it's preferred to use the domain p2pfoundation.net ONLY for mediawiki. Using the Translate extension for MediaWiki, it's possible to translate articles in various language, so to have different wiki for different languages instead of articles in different languages from english inside of an english wiki, as it is now. So basicly the new architecture could be to have a wiki configured for languages and a blog for countries. Two different features, the wiki is the p2p encyclopedia and the blog is the community. I appreciate the proposal, and it makes sense, but this needs a discussion, especially with the tech support, i.e. james and xavier! On Sat, Nov 2, 2013 at 10:44 PM, Marco Giustini <[email protected]>wrote:

A possible plan for transition to a new model could be to transfer the domain p2pf.net from me to you, hosting it on your servers and start an experimental (not visible) installation of wordpress multisite. In the meantime all is left untouched on p2pfoundation.net domain. When all is ready you can decide if closing blog.p2pfoundation.net redirecting to p2pf.net or not. 2013/11/2 Michel Bauwens <[email protected]>

Hello Marco, Nice to meet you. These proposals fit into a broader discussion about future development of the P2PF platform I've had with Layne Hartsell and Dorothea Mar. I know James and Chris would have something to say on this too. November is a busy month for most of us but I think this is something we should discuss in more detail perhaps a Skype or Google Hangout in December?
