Putin's Russia, government by spectacle, and its corrosive effects on global democracy are the focus of this month's headline interview with Timothy Snyder. We then discuss the changing politics of the European Parliament as 2019 elections edge closer and investigate what ending plastic pollution will really require. To help you unwind in the summer heat, we also bring you a round-up of drug policy and reform around Europe, as well as selected translations with more available online. From 'us' vs. 'them' foreign policy to anxious masculinity, this politics has spread from Russia to Europe and the United States, corroding democracy on the way.
