Fwd: [NYCGA Internet] PDF of the NYT story from before they changed it!
Here's a great example of how the media handles coverage about Occupy Wall St. Could someone on this list show the Occupiers of Wall St how to effectively incorporate this type of information into a wiki? Our category page on the wiki is here: http://p2pfoundation.net/Category:OccupyWallStreet We could really use your help creating a functional repository of knowledge about what's taking place! ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Susan Bernofsky <[email protected]> Date: Sat, Oct 1, 2011 at 8:11 PM Subject: [NYCGA Internet] PDF of the NYT story from before they changed it! To: Drew H <[email protected]> Cc: [email protected] Hey there - I'm sure you all noticed that the NYT first published a story that made it clear that the NYPD entrapped demonstrators on the bridge, and then later they replaced it with a version of the story that makes the NYPD look good. Anyhow, I thought the first one was too good to be true, so I saved a PDF of the original story (which is now no longer on their website). Here it is. I'll attach a PDF of the version they posted later too. You can tell from the time stamps which is which. Oy! Dear Devin, Susan, Creating entries is really easy, after self-registration just create any /Filename, click Create, fill in the content, add the category tag [[Category:OccupyWallStreet]] and voila ... uploading pdf's may a bit trickier, and Franco can advise; in case of problems, we have a platform list to ask for technical help, for pdf's, you could also scribd.com them, and then refer to them from within a wiki entry, Susan, you could also publish the comparison of the nypd articles on our blog, with some comment, and Amaia can help, Michel On Sun, Oct 2, 2011 at 7:33 AM, Devin Balkind <[email protected]>wrote:

I wouldn't be at all surprised by collusion between the NYT and NYPD, but from what I saw in the two versions this wasn't really a clear case of it. If anything, the revised includes more explicit claims that the protesters were entrapped and that they felt the police had been directing them onto the bridge, than the first article did. My guess is that the NYT expanded the original version in response to police complaints, and included both official NYPD statements *and* more detailed statements from Occupy. -- Kevin Carson Research Associate, Center for a Stateless Society http://c4ss.org Homebrew Industrial Revolution: A Low-Overhead Manifesto http://homebrewindustrialrevolution.wordpress.com Organization Theory: A Libertarian Perspective
