To: [email protected] Dear Friends and Colleagues Published today (Monday 15th August 2016) by *Independent Science News*. *Millions Spent, No One Served: Who Is to Blame for the Failure of GM Golden Rice?* by Dr Angelika Hilbeck and Dr Hans R. Herren https://www.independentsciencenews.org/health/millions-spent-who-is- to-blame-failure-gmo-golden-rice/ *Synopsis:* The recent Nobel laureates’ letter accusing Greenpeace of a “crime against humanity” for opposing genetically modified (GMO) golden rice is revealing of the current state of science. As we see it, there is a deep division between scientists who have a vision of a common future versus those who are disconnected from the people whom science is supposed to serve. This division is perfectly exemplified by the letter. Over 100 Nobel prizewinners with minimal experience of agriculture or poverty are apparently unaware of the practical, legal, and conceptual problems of golden rice. Apparently, they do not realise that the ony thing Greenpeace has contributed to the failure of golden rice is expose it to public view. The Authors are: Dr Angelika Hilbeck, Chair, European Network of Scientists for Social and Environmental Responsibility (ENSSER <http://www.ensser.org>). Dr. Hans R Herren, Agronomist/Entomologist (ETHZ) who worked in agricultural research and development for 27 years in Africa. He was Co-Chair, International Assessment of Agricultural Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD <http://www.agassessment.org>). Please share and enjoy this article.
