In this short post, Norma Watenpaugh catches one of the strategic choices you can make when bringing a new ecosystem strategy to the market: bring the challengers on board before the industry leaders.

It reminded us of Google's choices with the early Android, dropping Nokia for newcomers such as Samsung, LG, and growing eastern brands (at that time) such as ZTE and HTC. Worth a (short) read.

It's interesting and important to look into views that subvert our assumptions sometimes: as the readers know we're all for ultra-modular architectures but what can a highly capable functional organization look like?

"Apple operates with no conventional managers in a multidimensional structure. To create such innovations, Apple relies on a structure that centers on functional expertise. From multidimensional to functional structures. Its fundamental belief is that those with the most expertise and experience in a domain should have decision rights for that domain and may be useful for individuals and companies wanting to better understand how to succeed in rapidly changing environments."
