Shareable Weekly

A new path for Shareable

This week, we published the three-year strategic plan for Shareable. Starting in the New Year, we're going to ramp up the number of stories we produce, diversify our coverage, deepen our influence with decision-makers, and expand our partnerships with news outlets and other organizations. We've committed to be more transparent, diverse, community-driven, and community supported. Moving forward, we'll also be engaging our readers more in our work — we look forward to hearing your ideas and suggestions!

Despite being a pioneer in homesharing regulation, Amsterdam still faces many of the issues other cities face with Airbnb and their ilk, including a lack of tools to determine who is violating city rules and renting properties illegally.

For seniors who want to age in a supportive community environment, cohousing is an exciting alternative to traditional options such as retirement homes and assisted living centers.

Growing cities across the U.S. and Canada are grappling with the challenges of displacement and affordability in their housing markets, and many of them are looking to Cascadia’s innovative cities for answers. Portland, the smallest of Cascadia’s three major metropolitan areas, has perhaps one of its biggest and best ideas: the "residential infill project."

Public libraries are home to a lot of things besides books these days: makerspaces, cultural programs, art events, coworking spaces, teen centers, Libraries of Things, tool libraries and more. But one library in Blackpool, England is using its space to fight loneliness and isolation on a very human scale — by creating a public living room.
