Hi there, How can I paste without leaving input mode? And by the way, how can I join this mailing list. I've submitted several times at this site: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/implementations-list but noting had ever happened. Thanks, York

York, Good question. Ctrl-r is not implemented by viper nor by vimpulse. Since I find emacs keys more useful in insert mode, I generally unbind a lot of the viper keys. (define-key viper-insert-basic-map (kbd "C-d") nil) (define-key viper-insert-basic-map (kbd "C-t") nil) (define-key viper-insert-basic-map (kbd "TAB") nil) (define-key viper-insert-basic-map (kbd "C-y") nil) (define-key viper-insert-basic-map (kbd "C-e") nil) (define-key viper-insert-basic-map (kbd "<tab>") nil) (define-key viper-insert-basic-map (kbd "DEL") nil) (define-key viper-insert-basic-map (kbd "C-h") nil) (define-key viper-insert-basic-map (kbd "C-v") nil) Tim

Please try again. There was a typo in the front page code resulting in a missing <form> tag. -- Vegard
Hi Vegard, Thanks, finally I was able to join this mailing list. Vimpule is really cool, I'm loving it. But, how can I do paste in insert mode? Have a nice weekend, York On Sat, Apr 9, 2011 at 12:56 PM, Vegard Øye <[email protected]> wrote:

wasn't that C+y ?
It used to be – until Vimpulse implemented C-y in a vim-like way, i.e. for copying character by character from one line above. Which is a useful feature in itself, which I wouldn't want to miss either. But OTOH I find Emacs's C-y plus subsequent M-y (yank-pop) extremely useful. I haven't seen a comparable feature in vim. Now the only way of getting C-y M-y in Vimpulse is going to command mode, then switching to Emacs mode. (Or is there a direct way to go from insert mode to Emacs mode?) It should be feasible to bind yank to something else than C-y and less finger-friendly keys like S-insert – maybe to C-r <something>. M-y, which requires a yank before, is still unbound in Vimpulse, so you could use it. Cheers, Christoph -- Christoph Lange, Jacobs Univ. Haven't been reading this list for awhile, I have already implemented the insert mode paste, following Vim specification, pressing Ctrl-r " to paste, replacing " with a register letter will allow pasting from that register. I also implemented the "Ctrl-o" to escape to command mode for one command. I would like to contribute but don't know how to do that. Should I push to upstream repository or should I email Vegard the patch? Thanks, York On Sat, Apr 16, 2011 at 2:01 PM, Christoph LANGE < [email protected]> wrote: 04/15/2011 07:27 PM Isaac:

You can commit your changes to your local repository, export them as a patch with "git format-patch" and post the patch on the mailing list. When I apply the patch with "git am", your changes will show up in the global repository just as they do locally, signed with your name. Note that Vimpulse in being phased out in favor of a new project written from scratch: Evil.[1] Until Evil is ready for general use, I will still accept patches and bug reports for Vimpulse -- but any big changes will be a waste of time at this point. Hi Vegard, Please find attached my patches for three added features. Note that I have included Christoph Lange's "g; and g," as well. Thanks, York On Tue, Apr 26, 2011 at 7:56 AM, Vegard Øye <[email protected]> wrote: On 2011-04-26 05:37 +0200, York Zhao wrote:

Applied in commits c07634c, 32d845f and 1cd84be, with some small adjustments. It turns out that Viper has an unbound command for temporarily exiting to vi state, `viper-escape-to-vi', so I bound that to "C-o" in Insert state. -- Vegard
Hi Vegard, Thanks for applying my patch. While I was merging the master branch and my local branch I noticed that your changes to "C-o" doesn't seem to be correct. "C-o" in Vim is supposed to escape to command mode for only ONE command and then comes back to insert mode. It is similar to 'r' command which enters inert mode to replace the current char and returns back to command mode immediately. In our case here, the existing 'viper-escape-to-vi' function escapes to command mode but never comes back to insert mode again, thus, I don't think it can be binded directly to 'C-o', and this is why I added the 'viper-escape-to-vi-state' function which switches back to insert mode after one command. Plus, depending on the setting of 'viper-ESC-moves-cursor-back', the cursor position may need to be adjusted by '(viper-forward-char 1)' (even though the 'vipre-ESC-moves-cursor-back' option itself doesn't work which is another bug). It does come back to Insert state in my setup (Viper version 3.14 of November 22, 2008). Here is the docstring of `viper-escape-to-vi': Escape from Emacs state to Vi state for one Vi 1-character command. If the Vi command that the user types has a prefix argument, e.g., `d2w', then Vi's prefix argument will be used. Otherwise, the prefix argument passed to `viper-escape-to-vi' is used. If I am in vi state and type "i C-o x e", then I enter Insert state, delete the character under the cursor, and insert "e"; I remain in Insert state. -- Vegard
I just tested it again, although some minor thing is not handled elegantly, for example, the cursor and the state indicator letter is not changing to confirm with the current state, it did work. Sorry about that. On the other hand, I still think the document is a bit confusing, the wording is "Escape from Emacs state to Vi state", I didn't think 'Emacs' state is identical to 'insert' state. Maybe my understanding was not correct? :) Thanks, York On Mon, May 2, 2011 at 4:46 AM, Vegard Øye <[email protected]> wrote: On 2011-05-01 18:44 +0200, York Zhao wrote:
