[implementations-list] Fwd: viper-in-more-modes
---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Alexey Romanov <[email protected]> Date: Thu, Jun 12, 2008 at 10:24 AM Subject: viper-in-more-modes To: [email protected] Hello! I've been using both Vimpulse and viper-in-more-modes and extended vimm to Haskell, Ruby, Prolog and LaTeX (from AucTEX) modes. I'm sending you the modified file. Ruby, Haskell, and Prolog work, but LaTeX doesn't. For some reason (viper-modify-major-mode 'LaTeX-mode 'vi-state my-LaTeX-modified-vi-map) doesn't seem to work, since my-LaTeX-modified-vi-map has the correct value. About Vimpulse: if I have selected a region while in Normal mode, can I switch to Visual while keeping the selection? 'v' loses it. -- Yours, Alexey Romanov

Thank you very much. I apologize for not replying for so long. I no longer maintain viper-in-more-modes or Vimpulse. Do you still use both packages? Would you please test your changes in Emacs and XEmacs, update viper-in-more-modes's version number and changelog, and save your changes to EmacsWiki?

I don't know. I am currently writing to you from a PC that doesn't have Vimpulse installed on it. Kind regards, -Jason -- Jason Spiro: software/web developer, packager, trainer, IT consultant. About Vimpulse: if I have selected a region while in Normal mode, can I switch to Visual while keeping the selection? 'v' loses it.
That's because Vimpulse doesn't use Emacs' regions; Emacs' regions and Vim's selections differ slightly in that Vim includes the character under the cursor and Emacs doesn't, so the current version of Vimpulse has its own "visual region" and a specialized set of commands acting on it. I am using a custom visual mode which creates an Emacs region short of one character and "expands" the region to encompass the last character when a command is issued. My visual line selection employs the same "expand" principle, and an overlay makes the whole thing cosmetically indistinguishable from a "real" Vim selection. The benefit of this is that Emacs' entire command set is applicable on the selection -- for instance, in AUCTeX mode I can type `v e C-c C-f C-e' to emphasize a word. I intend to post it here some time during the holidays. Vegard _________________________________________________________________ Få nye Windows Live™ Messenger. http://download.live.com/messenger
