Re: [PeDAGoG] Reactivating PeDAGoG - Online Discussion on 6th June, 2 PM GMT
Dear PeDAGoG colleagues, PFA the meeting notes from our call on 6th June. The work to be taken up in the next few months has been divided into sub working groups, as mentioned in the notes. In case you would like to contribute to any of these sub groups, then you can connect with the group members latest by 18th June. Also adding the link to the Google Doc currently being worked upon by these groups (same as the meeting notes for now): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1X4p8-Lf6CDDIxyzs8Jc5xx6mb3fB3bSDYsYPbZmJ... Dear everyone,
I had an emergency yesterday- accompanied my mother to the ER after she had a bad fall and hurt her wrist joints and bones. We have to meet an ortho doctor tomorrow to seek medical advice if surgery is needed. So complicated these days to visit hospitals and meet doctors.
I will strive to attend the meeting tomorrow. But I have already asked my colleague Hans to take my role instead. He also joined last year's meeting so he can surely make contributions. I actually consulted him before I proposed the 3 broad themes earlier. We will take the initiative to schedule the Zoom meeting tomorrow, so Hans will send the Zoom link asap. He will also take the facilitator role in the breakout session come Sunday, 06June (instead of me, anticipating my mother's hospital admission). Another colleague Ryan, our social media coordinator, will also attend the Sunday meeting. I will try to join, will look for a way.
Warm regards,
Angging

V. good idea. I am marking also Julia and Angging, the others to respond to the earlier mail, in csae they have ideas for themes. We could also look at the minutes of the previous meeting, where some follow up actions were decdied on, if we want to pick any of them up again ... I am copying Julia's notes from that meeting below. Also adding Vasna here who was helping coordinate that meeting.
One immediate task is to reconstruct the repository of courses/materials/approaches that several members had contributed, and which we lost due to a fire in the server building that hosts the GTA website ... I am copying in Franco to ask if we were able to recover that. Else, we can rebuild it.
Pallavi, can you make a proposal for these thematic groups that we can send out on the list in advance?
thanks

(mail from Julia, 8 July 2020)
Dear friends, Many thanks to all who could make it and join. It was a joy getting to know you more directly and starting to draft collaborative action! To keep everyone in the loop, we are sharing the discussion results. Please everyone - also and especially if you couldn’t be in the session - be invited to add your thoughts and ideas and build on it collectively. https://board.net/p/PeDAGoG_Networking One important outcome of conversations is, that it would be fruitful to gather round in “working groups” around different topics and actions. We have started collecting some, but obviously the list is non-conclusive and can continuously be elaborated. Everyone is invited to add their names to the list of volunteers!
*Three points on interaction we would like to highlight in particular:*
1. People are welcome to invite others within their networks to join PEDAGOG - and maybe include a link for the mail address to subscribe 2. If people would prefer to remain anonymous on the public spaces, they can email Brandon to express their interest in particular groups and he can connect them. 3. The lesson from today is that everyone is welcome to initiate an activity, a meeting or a discussion in the network so please feel free to go ahead and suggest things!
*Some immediate points on the next steps: *
1. STRUCTURE AND ORGANISING
- Organising the communication and sharing in the PEDAGOG space so that material is accessible and not overwhelming the list - social-media presence? - Series of events where we share the approaches we are taking - webinar series from PEDAGOG? - Think about what gaps (geographical, thematic) exist and could be filled (e.g., currently lack of members from Africa)? - Creating a map of our expertise - create a visual tool with themes that concern this group - overlapping circles? - Can some of us find institutional backing, funds?
1. PEDAGOGIC AND KNOWLEDGE SHARING ACTIVITIES:
Potential to develop sub-groups on the following as a start:
- Feminism and political ecology - Teaching exchange through zoom co-teaching - Collaborative journal article writing - Collaboration on Masters education and exchange and summer schools - Youth activist-research outside of mainstream academic structures
1. COLLECTIVE VALUES AND PRINCIPLES OF THE PEDAGOG NETWORK
- Ethics and values of PeDAGoG
We need a statement on these for the kinds of transformations we want in society, the kind of academics/learning/teaching we feel is 'right', and the ethics for our own internal functioning of PeDAGoG as a network
- Suggestion: Small group of volunteers to start a draft
Three levels that might be important: 1. Ethics of the transformations we want in society - direction of the transformaiton 2. Ethics of our own teaching and learning spaces 3. Ethics of the PEDAGOG network itself - open, inclusive, non-hierarchical Keep in touch! Solidarity, Vasna, Brandon, Ashish, Julia On 27/05/21 10:29 am, Pallavi Varma Patil wrote:
Thanks. No confusion now! Am in fact happy this way as I was planning to ask you to include Sujit in the initial group of people. I have a suggestion though- like last time if we could set up small breakout rooms but this time with pre planned themes announced prior to the meetup? That may allow us to move more concretely forward. For example, I might be keen to volunteer in setting up an updated and diverse reading list on key Alternative themes. Another could be interested in working on the values/ ethics of PEDAGOG. If we could design this online meet time that allows us to know that say for the next few months this is where we contribute ?

Dear PeDAGoG colleagues,
Hope you're doing well!
As part of our attempt at revitalising PeDAGoG to become an actively engaged group, we have decided to host an online discussion for the group on 6th June, 2 PM GMT.
The discussion can broadly range over an update on innovative activities that members have been upto, and the various activities that we can pursue as a network, and how.
It would be great if people can show up for the meeting, though we also understand that there might be more pressing issues at hand for some of us. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Dear All You can see from Upamanyu’s letter that we are forming 5 “working groups” and one of them ( working group 1 ) is about building repositories of materials. This group will meet 4-5 times in the next two months to formulate the objectives, strategies , some detailed plan of action to be shared with the whole PeDAGoG group. Hopefully by end of third month we will get feedbacks and suggestions from the larger group . And by the 4th month we shall start building this repository. We invite volunteers to be part of this working group. The deadline is 18th June , and soon after we can have the first meeting of the working group. Hoping to hear from some of you John Foran , Julia Schoeneberg , Sujit Sinha From: GTA-PeDAGoG [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Upamanyu Das Sent: Friday, June 11, 2021 5:28 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [PeDAGoG] Reactivating PeDAGoG - Online Discussion on 6th June, 2 PM GMT Dear PeDAGoG colleagues, PFA the meeting notes from our call on 6th June.
