21st February - 1pm (UTC/GMT) DE-COLONIZING OUR BODIES: EXPERIENCES AND PRACTICES FOR RECLAIMING OUR WHOLE BODY SOVEREIGNTY How has modernity shaped the way we perceive, inhabit, and relate to our physical bodies? What does it mean to "reclaim whole body sovereignty"? How do we free not only our minds, but also the body from the shackles of coloniality and extractivism? How do we unroot the old myth of separation and domination from the sacred soil of our physical sanctuaries? And how might we begin to see our bodies as living systems - extensions of our Earthly home, interwoven with the fabric of life? Join us for an (un)learning journey guided by Wangui wa Kamonji. Together, we'll dive deep into questions of decolonization, healing, and how to restore wholeness with(in) the sacred vessel that carries our story. Interpretation into Spanish will be available for this webinar. More information, registration and link to join [1] [1] About the speaker: Wangui wa Kamonji is called to be a retriever and bearer of indigenous Afrikan lifeways and practices for the regeneration of the continent. This manifests through research using academic and indigenous methods, Afrikan dance and movement practice, storytelling in written and oral forms, and facilitating public spaces for critical consciousness, decolonisation and transformation. Environmental issues she has worked on include the spirituality of nature, ecological histories in conflict zones, resistance to coal industry, indigenous women's seed restoration, and ecologically sound urban waste cycles in Kenya, local responses to oil production in Uganda, and agroecological alternatives to international agribusiness in Kenya and Tanzania. She was part of the inaugural FRIDA Climate and Environmental Justice Fellowship researching and writing multimedia pieces on the intersections of gender and climate justice in East Afrika. 27th March - 1pm (UTC/GMT) INTERGENERATIONAL WISDOM: WEAVING SENSE MAKING AND LEARNINGS IN COMPLEX TIMES The historical moment we are currently facing requires that we simultaneously recover ancestral wisdom and constantly adapt to the new challenges. To achieve this, it is very important that we weave an intergenerational wisdom that incorporates both the stories and worldviews of the past, as well as the perceptions and capabilities of the new generations. We invite you to share with Alcar, Belén and Itzel (from the GTA Weaver Crianza Mutua México) and explore together the importance of building this "intergenerational wisdom" to collectively navigate the complexities we face today. FILMING CHANGE: A CONVERSATION WITH JANET SOLOMON
Hoping this invitation finds you well, and we are very excited for our 5th episode in the More than Human webinar series, having had four episodes so far and featuring speakers from South Asia, Latin America, and Scandinavia.
Our next episode is with film-maker and activist Janet Solomon who will tell us about her her film, Blue Burning- a powerful piece of work that documents impacts on South Africa's coasts & seas due to oil/gas exploration. She will share her journey of telling stories that need to be told in these times of climate ruptures, especially interweaving art and activism to bring wider awareness and connection to the natural world.
More information, registration and link to join [1]
[2]
About the speaker:
Janet Solomon is a passionate environmental and climate activist, artist, and award-winning filmmaker. Transcending the boundaries between activism and art, Solomon's compelling interventionist approach includes forging links between collectives, mobilizing public awareness, fostering collective action, and documentary film critique. Her unique technique combines evocative auditory sequences with a painterly visual aesthetic. By making the extremity of unliveable conditions imposed by offshore petroleum development on those who live in and depend on the ocean understandable, Solomon's process provokes public dialogue, and the imagination to envision another future and to advocate for it.
This activity is co-organized by Kalpavriksh [3] and the Global Tapestry [4] of Alternatives [5].
