How I Became a Tree: A Conversation with Sumana Roy
Wishing you a very happy Gregorian new year, filled with a resolve for new beginnings and nurturing conversations, connections and collaborations! We have had three episodes of the More than Human: Creative Expressions webinar series so far, featuring speakers from South Asia, Latin America, and Scandinavia.
Our next episode is with celebrated author and poet Sumana Roy in conversation with series coordinator Shrishtee Bajpai. Sumana will talk about her experience and share meditations in writing, especially how trees, plants and the rest of nature are reflected within the many genres she traverses in her work. The title of this episode is taken from her award-winning non-fiction book 'How I Became a Tree', which features “stunning meditations on forests, plant life, time, self, and the exhaustion of being human evoke the spacious, relaxed rhythms of the trees themselves.”
Sumana Roy is the author of two works of nonfiction, How I Became a Tree and Provincials; Plant Thinkers of Twentieth-Century Bengal, a work of literary criticism; Missing: A Novel; My Mother’s Lover and Other Stories; and two collections of poems, Out of Syllabus and VIP: Very Important Plant. Her work is featured here: https://sumanaroy.co.in/
The session will be moderated by Shrishtee Bajpai.
This activity is co-organized by Kalpavriksh and the Global Tapestry of Alternatives.
