Hi Everyone,
Carol Anne is busy the next two days so I thought I'd follow up on her email about getting us together again. Pallavi just ran a wonderful webinar on Living Utopias last Friday and followed it up today with an email to some of you and to PeDAGoG with a sign up sheet for those who had an idea for a future webinar. Nonetheless I think we all agreed that it would be useful to have a conversation about our common interests and potential webinars.
So in keeping with her suggestions, let's meet:Thursday, April 21, at 11:30 AM EDT which is 3:30 PM GMT at this link
Reply to me only if you cannot make it -- if there are too many who can't we can reschedule. Feel free to share this with others who you think should be there.
All the best,Steve

Greetings everyone.Just a quick reminder that we cancelled the meeting today (in case it was still on your calendars) due to conflicts with the GTA General Assembly meeting (today) and the Living Utopia's webinar (scheduled for tomorrow). Please attend the Living Utopia's webinar and hopefully we can reconvene in a few weeks time to discuss and plan subsequent webinars/collaborations.
If Thursdays around the previously agreed upon time (11:30am EST) still works, can I suggest, Thursday April 21? If I hear back from enough people I can go ahead and send out another invite and zoom link.
thanks and see you tomorrow.Carol Anne

Greetings everyone and thanks Elizabeth for the recap. Also thanks to Lina, Ashish and others for building on previous threads so we don't lose out on past ideas and conversations. Apologies for the long email, I'm trying to clarify what I understood from our meeting and hopefully provide a suggestion forward.
As agreed, I am scheduling a meeting for us to reconvene on Thursday March 31 at 11:30am in New York (EDT or UTC-4). Here is the zoom link: https://nyu.zoom.us/j/8645835567
The purpose of that meeting (as I understand it) is for members of this group to gather again to deepen our own understanding about each other's work, ideas and possible collaborations. The idea is to create a reflective space for us to share work that is already underway, make connections where possible, and brainstorm new ideas together. Some of the ideas we discussed were to collaborate on future webinars and consider joint initiatives like contributing materials or writing to publications or newsletters. In addition to increasing how we share our work and who participates, the other issue raised was how to go beyond offering 1-off webinars that often remain at an informational level, and try different formats (some new structures were briefly shared), as well as, consider creating workshop formats where participants would attend a series of sessions with guided questions and activities to take back to their organizations and work on in-between sessions. In this vein, maybe it makes sense for the next meeting to focus on: (1) 1-2 critical ideas/concrete examples of the kinds initiatives each of us are focusing on that we want to highlight/share (2) examples of successful ways of convening and bringing together different/diverse communities that we span, and (3) challenges and questions about extending/expanding or deepening this work beyond introductions and "show and tell" to something transformative.
I also understood that a second meeting will be held soon that will be focused on planning an initial joint webinar (or first in a series of webinars/workshops) with PeDAGoG, Educere, Ecoversities Alliance, TAP, and GTA on alternative learning/education (possibly in late April)... (based on a concept note from conversations that were started between these organizations that was created and shared by Lina). This could become a series of webinars joining the one being planned by Pallavi etc on their course called Living Utopias. Maybe a sub-group for planning should meet and design this initial session, possibly building from Lina's concept note (This earlier group was comprised of Lina, Vashna, Steve, Carol Anne, Franco, Pallav Shrishtee, Ashish) and will be combined with Pallavi and Sujit's initial planning. Can either Lina or Pallavi schedule this group in the coming weeks? We can share an update at our March 31 meeting.
A third webinar on higher education transformation (through this group) and a fourth on community resilience in times of crises and radical alternatives (GTA, TAP, WeALL) will (hopefully) follow. We can discuss and plan for those at the March 31 meeting.
Hope that makes sense and captures what we discussed. I'll also send a zoom link with the calendar invite soon.thanks, Carol Anne

Dear Elizabeth and dear all,
It was a pleasure to meet you today. Elizabeth, thanks for the summary. There is only one point that is confusing (for me, at least): I am not sure if Pallavi will take as a backdrop the note I sent you, or if Pallavi was proposing something different. In any case, I am sending you the link to the googledocs where you can find the concept note (you’ll also find it in an attached document). Pallavi, if you think the note fits the aims of the webinar, please feel free to use it and modify it.The note is composed of three parts: 1. the problematic: why does education matter? (its ontological, anthropological and political basis and effects); 2. the principles and effects of modern and hegemonic education; 3. the existence of other ways of understanding and practicing education, as well as some of the general characteristics of these alternative conceptions.
In a previous meeting Vasna (from the GTA) proposed to invite Alessandra Pomarico from Ecoversities Alliance, and I suggested to invite James Montano, a professor from the Misak University (an indigenous university based in the south of Colombia). Franco (from REEVO and GTA) proposed to draw on the dialogue that was started by a webinar recently held by TAP (so as not to start from scratch). At the end of the googledocs you’ll find the points that were discussed in that webinar.
I am not sure if this information is useful, but I am sending it to you, so we don’t lose the memory and the work of past meetings.
Best,
Lina

Herewith a big THANK YOU to all that attended. As we started getting to know one another, the agenda shifted slightly. Our common objective -correct me if I am wrong - is to actively collaborate and deepen the impact of our initiatives. The principal OUTCOME of our meeting today, was to design a webinar series under the lead of Pallavi's Living Utopias project, and to have a series of reflective conversations, which Carol Anne will contact us about. The Higher Education sharing of pedagogical practice is ON HOLD, as Pallavi's initiative seems to be the one that most easily combines all our respective remits and interests (alternatives, education (children/community) and higher education tertiary education; while arbitrary distinctions, these are thematic areas of the status quo, and are useful to focus our gaze).
the ON HOLD initiative...for reference: Ecoversities - reclaiming knowledges, relationships and imaginationsthe agenda: to identify and establish a collaborative, coordinating task force for a webinar series focused on sharing teaching practices inspired and informed by decanonizing, decolonising, post-dev. and anthrop., activism.
the format: practice based. reflections on pedagogic practice and intercultural teaching methodologies, or sharing and carrying out the pedagogies with the audience as participants, in and for Higher Education.
Have a great rest/end of day.Elizabeth
