Next System Teach-ins

Dear members of the Global Tapestry of Alternatives,

On September 4th and 5th, 195 people converged from across the globe. Through the second Next System Convergence, faculty, students, and staff from more than 50 universities and colleges, as well as three dozen think tanks, unions, and civil society organizations, prepared for the Next System Teach-Ins this November. This gathering had double the participation of the one we held in April!

As part of the Convergence, we were very happy to announce the release of a new Next System Teach-In Organizing Guide as well as the beginning of twice-weekly "office hours" held in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.

The Organizing Guide gives simple, yet detailed, step by step guidance for hosting a Next System Teach-In. Check it out: https://nextsystem.org/organizing-guide/

Watch the Next System Convergence II

If you missed the September Next System Convergence watch videos from every single session on nextsystem.org/convergence or YouTube.

One highlight was a session on LA, DC, Chicago: Non-Violent Resistance and System Change, presented by Next System Studies at GMU and the Albert Einstein Institution. This session tackled community-based nonviolent resistance and the possibilities for system change in the United States today. Jamila Raqib, Stephanie Brancaforte, Slobodan Milic, April Doner, Joe Guinan, Matt Nelson, and Ben Manski took on the relationships between the strength of next system alternatives in these cities and their capacities to defend themselves against a hostile White House.

Topics Featured at the Convergence

On the first day of the Convergence we held a “Forum on the Next System,” featuring the work of the organizations and communities partnering in this process.

On the second day, we held a “Next System Teach-In Organizing Conference” dealing with the practice and the theory of organizing a Next System Teach-In.

As November approaches and preparations for Teach-Ins advance in six countries (so far), we would like to remind you to register to organize a teach-in here. And if you have any doubts, questions, or ideas, please reach out to us at contact@nextsystem.org or to deissy.perilla@gmail.com . We will be glad to support you and guide you through the in-site teach-in organizing process.
