I've been gardening for years and have found that raised beds work beautifully for root vegetables. For carrots, I recommend spacing them about 3 inches apart in rows that are 12 inches apart. Companion planting wise, planting onions near carrots can help deter pests naturally. Also, consider adding some marigolds around the perimeter for additional pest control. I've been researching irrigation systems for raised beds and found that drip irrigation works exceptionally well. It conserves water and delivers moisture directly to the roots. Another tip: adding a layer of mulch after planting helps retain moisture and suppress weeds. Straw or shredded leaves work perfectly for this purpose. Can't wait to get my hands in the soil!
