HOLA! OS REENVÍO UN EMAIL QUE HEMOS ESCRITO A RAÍZ DE ESTA EXPERIENCIA TAN ALUCINANTE! AYUDA A RELATIVIZAR BASTANTE LO DE AQUÍ! MUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Dear friends, How are you? This summer we had the opportunity to have a trip to Guatemala , Belize and Mexico , a really interesting experience! But I am not writing you because of the Mayan archaeological sites, the Caribbean sea or the incredible jungle. During our trip we had the opportunity also to know another reality that we will like to share with you. Our last day in Guatemala City, we went around and ended up at the town cemetery from where we had one of the most terrible views ever: just at the foot of the hill where the cemetery is located, right in the city center, it lies now the main Guatemala city dump site. Apart of the horrible ecological damage (We’ve never seen a darker and more polluted water) the saddest thing is that ten thousands people are scavenging there daily for 14 hours to look for in the garbage something which can be resold. We could see their “houses” and tents down there, in the middle of the garbage… really too much for us!!!!!! When we left we were so sad, but also somehow grateful to have had the opportunity to live that experience. Too often in Europe we are now focusing on ourselves, on our economical crisis, on our belly button: let’s put things on the right perspective, let’s remember always we are still a small extra-super-lucky minority on this planet and a big percentage of our travel mates are still lacking very basic services such as food, water, health, education… This situation really brings you back to the global reality!
